Exhibition Venue:Art Center Exhibition Room, 1F, General Building III, Second Campus, National Formosa University
Exhibition Introduction:
“Mountain” is one of the most important representational elements in the artistic creation of Tseng Ching-Pin. Beginning with “Primordial Nature” in 2015, followed by “Beyond the Mountain Form” in 2016, “Encircling Mountains” in 2017, and in 2022 “Below the Mountain-Taiwan Mountain Sketches” and “Mountain Islets”. “Mountain” no longer merely refers to a mountain itself, but rather represents a transformation of information volume,
as the artist follows the trajectory of information, continuously engaging in dialogue with himself, step by step and thread by thread dismantling it.
The initial stage of the artist’s creative process begins with a large number of sketches drawn in booklet pages, marked with era and location, compiled into observational records, and then attempts are made to depict issues beyond mountain forms through classical oil painting methods. Through the layered techniques of oil painting, a mental state of continuously stacking upward or excavating downward within the mind’s imagery is presented.
The creative context begins with self-exploration, starting from the artist’s personal experiences of traveling the world, then discussing the issues of “attachment” and “self-worth” found in Buddhist scriptures, and further extending to the conceptual existence between “self” and “other”. Closely focusing on the value and meaning of “self” / “other-self”, and subsequently transforming the depiction of physical landscapes into metaphysical imagery creation.
